When microwaves first stepped up into the kitchen scenario, they were used for three things: microwaving popcorn, warming up a cup of coffee and fixing a good, steam microwave baked potato. Up until the microwaves came out, in order to enjoy this piece of food, one would have to plan ahead and bake it in an oven for no less than one hour and that was only if you remembered to purchase aluminum foil. Today, people are able to cook a potato in the microwave and call it a good meal. Below, we are going to show you a step by step guide that will explain to you how to good one of these veggies in the microwave…
First of all, you need to wash the potatoes. Washing the potatoes is important, because they were grown in the dirt and if you do not wash them, you will have some “gritty” bites. Take a knife and pierce the potato a couple of times all the way through.
We recommend you cooking only four of these at a time. Place the potato in the microwave baked potato or on a coffee filter.
Four small to medium potatoes should cook for seven minutes. If you have four large ones, then they should cook for eleven minutes. Who would have ever thought that you could bake a potato in as little as eleven minutes? When they are done in the microwave, take them and put them in a covered pot and allow them to sit there for at least ten minutes. We will tell you why to place it in a pot like this in a second.
They will need to be removed before they are completely done, when a knife can easily be placed through them. Ovens vary, so you may have to experiment with yours in order to get the right time. After about two times of baking a potato with your microwave, you will start to get it right.
The secret to making a good one would be to take it out of the over before it gets done and begins to wrinkle.
Why place the potato in a pot? When you put them in a pot, you will need to put a little bit of water in the covered pot as well. This will allow it to continue to cook. Instead of placing it in the pot, you could always wrap it up in aluminum foil. However, the covered pot will be doing the environment good as you will not be wasting any foil.
When you pull them out of the pot or unwrap them from the aluminum foil, they should be moist and done. Take the knife and make a “T” shape on the potato and pull the corners of the peeling back in order to expose what is inside of it. Restaurants have a tendency to make the opening small, but you can make the opening as large as you wish. You can also fluff it up with the fork and apply sour cream, butter and salt. As you see, the microwave baked potato is simple to make and delicious to eat.
